Vinyl is BIG in Austin - OMG, I couldn't believe it. Of course, they're all about their music. I thought I was exposed to a lot more music since my subscription to satellite radio but Austin's got nothing on me. I listened to more new music in my son's apartment over the weekend than I've heard in the past year. And most of it isn't even available on CD. :( I don't own a turntable so it's not likely I'll be able to hear these songs again. I was able to find a few to download on my IPod but it's just not the same.
Austin has a slogan: Austin is Weird. I'd like to say Austin is Wired. Just a little play on words if you recall Deja View. On every other corner is a coffee shop which means at every table there is someone sitting with their laptop. It's crazy. Well...it is a college town, after all. But I'm not a coffee drinker nor did I bring a laptop with me. Thank goodness I had my Kindle with me or I would have felt completely out of place every time Joe stopped at one of these places.
We had a great weekend listening to music, eating (Italian, Mexican, and Mediterranean), riding bikes, and going to Barton Springs. One of the last things we did before I left (and before I knew I would be stranded for one more night) was dance. Joe put his camera on the floor in video mode and I'm guessing our feet were recorded but I haven't
seen the video yet. No matter, it was a lot of fun.
And what's a weekend without Scrabble??? This is Joe's new board (courtesy Mom). Although the play is cut off, I played "ditz" in the lower right corner for 42 points on the triple. Joe came back with "quiz" for 32 points. It was a very close game. Kids...don't leave home without them!
