Words to the Wise

One of my dearest friends, Tom, and I play five games of Scrabble every Wednesday night. Tom is a higher rated player than I but always enjoy the challenge. It doesn't happen very often but sometimes we each win two games and then it's a real rubber match. Tonight was one of those nights. And tonight I was on fire. I played FOUR bingos in this game - detains, trawled, elastics, and lingerer. At another point I had "relying" on my rack but I didn't have a place to put it down. Four bingos and Tom still won this game 388 to 363. Winning the game wasn't all he did. He also left me with a bingo on my rack when he played his last tile. Can anyone find the 7-letter word? It's very common. And for those of you who are wondering...there isn't a phony word on this board!

Linda- youhad remarked you couldn't find a way to get the d in tyour opening rack on the double letter without putting a vowel next to a double letter. The word INSTEAD with the s on the center square accomplishes this nicely. Tom

Tom, it was just a matter of time before you figured out somewhere I could have played instead! LOL
