The Scrabble tournament I entered yesterday was a breast cancer fundraiser to benefit Susan G Komen for the Cure. It was a one-day tournament with 7 games. There were 10 players in my division and I was the number two seed. Statistically, I was only expected to win 4 games but I ended the day undefeated. Click on "statistically" to see what the playing field looks like. I went with Tom, a friend who comes to my home every Wednesday evening to play 5 "friendly" games. Tom also won his division (he played in the second division and I played in the fourth). But as soon as Tom received his prize money ($100) he immediately turned it over as a donation to Susan G Komen for the Cure in honor of his mother. It was a touching moment.
It was another day of seeing old friends and making new ones. There was also a "booby" prize for the best "boob" word. I really liked Nikki Scafa's "bustiest" play but, in the end, everyone's favorite was "survivor" played by Alexandra Gianikas. Tom and I headed to the nearby Mangrove Grill in Palmetto to have dinner and to
celebrate our victories!
