Fun Is My Revenge Against Mortality

It's been an interesting week. Eli (a friend from college) got here from NC on Tuesday and stayed through Friday. We stayed up late every night drinking wine and reminiscing but found time to play in between. We saw a foreign film at the Tampa Theatre called "A Girl Cut in Two." It was a French film with English subtitles. But the most fun I had was taking Wednesday off from work and going to Shoot Straight with him. Shoot Straight is an indoor firing range. It wasn't the first time Eli took me to a firing range but the last time was many years ago. We met in the mid 90s when we were both students at Fayetteville State University. Eli is retired Air Force and also a graduate of the Air Force Academy. He is now a practicing CPA in NC. Anyway, we were trying to decide if I had more pairs of shoes than he had guns. He won. Now that's a LOT of guns!! But pictured here are three that he brought for me to shoot this time. A .22, a .38, and a 9mm. I did real well with the .22 and the target proves it but I could barely make the target with the 9mm. The .38 wasn't too bad either.

Before I forget, the title of this blog is a quote by Dustin Hoffman in today's paper. It's perfect. It's the way I live my life. And I discovered a couple of other things today, too. I didn't know until Diana and I were on our way home from Caladesi Island on the ferry that today was the first day of winter! Four days from Christmas, first day of winter, and we went to the beach. Ya gotta love Florida. And Diana wore the best t-shirt I have ever seen. Up until this point I had another favorite. It was an upside down Nike swoosh and it read "Just Done It." I never thought you could beat that. But here's what she wore! Awesome...

So the conversation is centered a lot of times on music because we listen to it all the way over to the beach and back. Diana has an impressive collection of music. I told her I just bought a James Morrison cd (Nothing Ever Hurt Like You) and she tells me she loves James Morrison. Admittedly, even with all her music, I was surprised she knew who it was. I even made sure she wasn't confusing him with Jim Morrison. Nope. She even saw James Morrison in concert last year. He opened, along with Ben Folds, for John Mayer at a concert in the Ford Amphitheater. Turns out, I was there, too!!!!!
Yep, that's the other thing I learned today. I've seen James Morrison in concert. I discovered him recently on satellite radio and never knew I saw him in person. Too funny.

We're Gonna Shop Around the Clock Tonight!

Ok, for starters, Cindy and I got to the outlet mall at Ellenton almost 3 hours after it opened. It was close to noon and it opened at 9. Holiday hours, I tell ya. Who knew? Needless to say, there was no parking to be found. But leave it to us - where there's a will, there's a way. Or as someone we know is fond of saying, where there's a will, I hope I'm in it! Anyway...it was no big deal. We simply uprooted the tree to make room for the vet. Do pictures lie?

Heeeeeeerrrrrrreeee's Cindy getting into the spirit. Actually, I just bought new hats for us tonight - they're red with black fur trim and they are hawt! And this was taken right after we met the man from Turkey. We now now how to say Red Corvette and Burgandy Corvette in Turkish. And this was all before we met the guy from Germany...

We ended the day at a yacht basin of sorts in Palmetto. Mangrove Grill is nestled on the Manatee River at the gorgeous Riviera Dunes Marina Resort.

Corvette Ranch

Saturday was the Army/Navy game but more that than, it was a chance to get together with friends and just hang out. We met up with Marc and Diana along with some others from Marc's year group. This year's "tailgate" was held at the Green Iguana in downtown Tampa. Normally we camp out in the game room at Raymond James Stadium but the ACC Championship game was being played that afternoon. The Gators also played Alabama later in the day so the fact that Navy beat Army 34-0 was hardly news. In fact in appeared on the back page of the sports page today.

2008 Vet drove over from Okeechobee to rendezvous with 1996 and 2003 Vets. Mike let Cindy drive on the way over and I drove back. Vet, you know, like in (Co)Vet!

That's right, Cid, just push the button to start. 2008 Vet doesn't take keys!

You're going to park where?????
