I wanna drive it all night long. And talk about getting the show on the road! Tampa to St George Island. That's where I went this weekend with a friend from my hometown of Oneonta, NY. Cindy (Cyd as she likes to be called) and I haven't seen each other in over 40 years. Not since she gave me a going away party when my family moved to Syracuse. I recently learned she lived about a half hour away from me and we planned this trip to the beach. If anyone had told me earlier that I was going to meet a friend who likes to go shopping, to the beach, AND corvettes, I wouldn't have believed them. I mean, what are the chances?!

Life is a Highway...
There's Cyd marketing the cd we made the night before we left. We downloaded songs from our "era" and then a few extras for some good driving music. Needless to say, the first song was "Life is a Highway" in honor of our mutual friend, Kathy. We included Steppenwolf's "Born to be Wild," The Guess Who's "American Woman," and James Brown's "I Feel Good."
Now, to answer that age old question "Is there enough room in the trunk of a corvette to put everything two girls need for a weekend getaway?" we can show you definitively that it can be done. We had 7 pairs of shoes before Cyd bought two more pairs and about 8 bags between the two of us. And, yes, there was room to bring home all the things we bought when we went shopping. We were more or less forced to go shopping Saturday morning when we woke up to rain. What's a girl to do?
We stayed at this wonderful little place called the St George Inn. Three floors with doors to the inside of the inn and french doors to the veranda. Instead of separate balconies for each room, you can walk around the entire floor and sit in one of the rocking chairs that line the porch. If you sit in front of our room (we stayed in Windjammer), you can see the Gulf of Mexico to the left. If you look to your right, you can view the Intercoastal Waterway. It was so perfect in every way. We felt so safe and so comfortable that when we woke up Sunday morning at 4:30am, we opened the french doors for air and went back to sleep. How many places can you do that?
Sunday morning we decided to go to "church" and worship the sun gods. We put on the clothes we bought the day before and strutted our stuff in the surf.
And just for giggles, here's a picture of a sign in the place we had pizza Saturday night (get your mind out of the gutter!) AND the results of Girls Gone Wild. Well, it's OUR version of Girls Gone Wild! The last picture of me in front of the car was taken by Cindy on our way to church ala Marilyn Monroe style! She took a lot more but missed the deadline for blog posting time!
